How Bidwall works

Bidwall is a public experiment where visual space is allocated by money. Here is exactly how the wall decides how big each photo is.

One formula decides every size

Each photo on the wall carries a bid, the amount someone paid for it to be there. The photo with the highest bid is always the largest, and every other photo is scaled relative to it.

photo_size = photo_bid / highest_bid

A $50 photo next to a $100 leader is drawn at half the leader's size. A $10 photo next to the same leader is drawn at a tenth.

The wall resizes when someone outbids the leader

Because every size is relative, a new top bid changes the scale of the entire wall. The previous leader shrinks to the ratio between its bid and the new one, and every other photo shrinks with it. Photos grow and shrink with a smooth animation, in real time.

Placing a bid

Click Place a bid, upload a photo and choose an amount from $1. A preview compares your photo with the current top bid before you pay. Payment goes through Stripe and can be charged in your local currency. Once it is confirmed, your photo appears on the wall.

Photos are placed on an infinite canvas that you can pan and zoom.

Managing your photo without an account

There are no logins. When you place a bid you receive a secret management link. From that page you can raise your bid or delete your photo. You can only raise a bid, never lower it.

If you lose the link you lose control of the photo. There is no password reset and no way to recover it.

Promote a site, an app or a brand

When you place a bid you can add a title, a short caption, a category and a link. Visitors who open your tile see those details and a button to your link. Links open in a new tab, are marked nofollow ugc, and are moderated.

From your management link you can edit these details and see how many visitor sessions opened your tile and clicked your link. These are real counts, one per visitor session, and Bidwall does not promise any amount of traffic.

Leaderboard, king of the wall and achievements

The leaderboard ranks tiles by bid. The tile with the highest bid is the king of the wall, and each tile's share of the wall is its bid divided by the highest bid. A live activity feed lists paid events such as a tile joining, raising its bid or taking the top spot.

Achievements such as Reached #1, Dethroned the king or Held #1 for an hour are awarded only when the recorded history proves them. You can also share a card with your rank and share of the wall.

What Bidwall is not

It is not a social network, a marketplace or an ad network. There are no likes, followers or comments, and nothing is guaranteed about views or clicks. It is a public experiment about what attention is worth.

Rules of the wall

All bids are final and non-refundable. You are responsible for the content you upload, and content that breaks the Terms can be marked as sensitive or removed. Read the full Terms of Use before you bid.
